Doubtlessly WordPress 2.5 raised attention to all users, and the 50.000 amount is amazing, though I'm in that number for like 5 to 6 times. It had 50,000 downloads of the beta and release candidate versions before 2.5.0 was ever released, a huge amount of testing. The security fix is important, the 70 bugs fixed are mostly trivial and edge cases only impacting a small number of users.
